Question about Monero GUI Wallet: Local node

Initially, I'm still new to cryptocurrency. One time while doing some research, I came across this anonymous Monero coin. And after doing a lot of digging, I found out that there are two types of nodes, Remoto node and Local node.
First of all, what exactly is the difference between the two? I'd like to know what the drawbacks and advantages are. Then I know that Local node is more anonymous, but I'm not sure if this is I want to build it on my own PC but I don't understand how to do it.
What do I have to do to make it work?
I want to know the steps that must be taken to do this.

Thank you.
